If you have ever gone through the process of self-forgiveness, you would agree that it is a difficult task/process. In order to forgive yourself for something, first you have to be willing to let it go. Most people deal with many past mistakes, they are not proud to have experienced. However, the past became part of their current identity.  Saying let it go may seem simple to some, but when something has become part of your identity it is not as easy to do. That is why we say it is a process, because you have to be willing to let it go.

The letting go process takes time, because it starts with recognizing there are others that made the same mistakes you made. Once you can recognize that you were not the first or last person to make that mistake, it does not seem as devastating. Now understand this does not excuse your past mistakes but mistakes are made to learn from, not to torture yourself. Realize that making mistakes is part of living life and you will make more. Process this first step and work on letting it go before moving on to the next step of self-forgiveness.
